Lois “Jean” Evelyn (Stratman) Scott Fritz, 85, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away surrounded by her family on Sunday, September 2, 2018 at Deaconess Midtown Hospital. Lois “Jean” Evelyn Stratman was born on September 18, 1932 in Evansville, Indiana, the daughter of Pauline (Wehmer) and Victor Stratman. Church was the center of her life and Jean was an active member at Bethlehem United Church of Christ. She taught Sunday School and volunteered with the caregiver program for shut-ins. Jean was very creative and shared her talents in many ways.
She was a seamstress and member of Extension Homemaker and she also enjoyed painting with watercolors and oils. She loved the arts as a member of Civic Theater, Evansville Philharmonic Guild and New Harmony Theater. She was a member of Friday Night Dance Club, Hamilton Ladies Spit-Fire Golf League, Evansville Country Club, and Kennel Club.
She enjoyed deep sea fishing and sports of all kinds, especially the St. Louis Cardinals, IU Basketball, Pacers and Kentucky Derby. She and her second husband, Arthur Fritz, enjoyed traveling and were fortunate to visit many parts of the world. Of all her accomplishments in life, she dearly loved her children and grandchildren and they brought her the most joy.
Jean is survived by her son, Steven R. Scott of Evansville, IN; her daughter, Julie Trice (Gary) of Newburgh, IN; her step son, David Fritz (Tony) of Ft. Myers, FL and her step daughter, Anna Stephens (Jerry); sister, Patricia Freeman; brother, Arthur Stratman all of Evansville, IN; brother-in-law, Steve Tuley of Tacoma, WA; godchildren, Sean Tuley and Karen Freeman Schmitt; grandchildren, Scott Trice, Eric Trice, Denisse Fregozo, Hanzell Jose Fregozo (Chasity); step grandchildren, Erin Jones (Chad), JoAnna Elpers (Mike), Jeffrey Baughman, Melissa Zehner (Shawn), Mark Trice (Jessica) and many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Jean was preceded in death by her first husband and father of her children, Jack Scott in 1999; her second husband, Arthur Fritz in 2009; infant daughter, Lori Jean Scott in 1967; a sister, Judi Tuley; brothers, Melvin and Donald Stratman; and brother-in-law, Sam Freeman.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, September 7, 2018 at Bethlehem United Church of Christ, 6400 Oak Hill Rd. , Evansville, IN 47725 with Pastor Emily Slade officiating. Burial will follow at Bethlehem United Church of Christ Cemetery.
Friends may visit from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Thursday, September 6, 2018 at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Ave. , Evansville, IN 47711 and again from 12:00 Noon until service time at the church on Friday. Memorial contributions may be made to Bethlehem United Church of Christ or to the Vanderburgh Humane Society, P.O. Box 47719.
