Obituary for Sister Janice Niemeyer Sister Janice (Janice Marie) Niemeyer died at Seton Residence in Evansville, Indiana on August 30, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. Sister Janice was born in Kansas City, Missouri on July 1, 1933 and was one of three children of Louis Frederick and Loretta (Halloran) Niemeyer. She graduated from Laboure High School in St. Louis, Missouri in 1951 and entered the Daughters of Charity in St. Louis in November, 1951. After initial formation, Sister Janice was sent to teach at St. Theresa School in New Orleans, Louisiana from 1953 to 1956 and then served as a Group Mother at Mount St. Joseph in San Francisco, California (1956-1961) and at Marillac Center in Kansas City, Missouri (1961-1966).
Sister Janice earned a B.A. in Education from the University of San Francisco in California in 1961 and an MSW in Social Work from Loyola University in Chicago, Illinois in 1968. She then served as a School Social Worker at St. Elizabeth in San Francisco until 1970. Sister was then sent to Guardian Angel Settlement in St. Louis, Missouri where she ministered as a Case Worker (1970-1972) and as Director (1972-1974).
She was then sent to St. Vincent Infant Home in New Orleans, Louisiana as Child Care Director and Assistant Administrator (1974-1979). She was missioned to Austin, Texas as a Social Worker at Marywood (Home of Holy Infancy) from 1979 until 1988 and then to Dallas, Texas where she was Director of Social Services at Marillac Social Center (1988-2004) and as Director of Financial Assistance at Catholic Charities (2004-2008). From 2009 to 2012 Sister Janice volunteered in the Health Clinic of Daughters of Charity Services of New Orleans.
In 2012 Sister Janice began serving in the Ministry of Prayer at Seton Residence in Evansville, Indiana. A Wake Service will be held on Monday, September 3, at 6:30 p.m. in the Seton Residence Chapel and the Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, September 4, at 11:00 a.m. in the Seton Chapel. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Sister is survived by her brother, Robert Louis (Audrey) Niemeyer and her sister, Marcella Mary Funck, nieces and nephews, her Sisters in Community and many friends.
