OBITUARY RICHARD E BRAUKHOFF December 19, 1942 – August 30, 2018 Richard E. Braukhoff, 75, passed away at Pine Haven Health & Rehab Center on August 30, 2018, due to complications of Lewy Body Dementia. He was born on December 19, 1942 and was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church where he served in many capacities over the years. His greatest joy was singing in the church choir.
He had a wonderful voice and hoped that after he died he would be able to sing with the angels in God’s heavenly choir. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Hans E. and Marion Braukhoff, a younger brother, Hans P. Braukhoff and two brother-in-laws, John Goodman and Al Logsdon. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Rebecca, two daughters, Ann (Eddie) Happe, and Keri (Joe) Carney, three grandchildren, Lynzie Lancaster, Fox Wright, Kaci Carney and two step grandchildren, Clinton and Clay Happe.
Also, two sisters, Sylvia Goodman and Rebecca Logsdon, and several nieces and a nephew. Richard graduated from Francis Joseph Reitz High School in 1960 and was a proud “West Sider” all of his life. Upon graduation he started working at National City Bank, where he met his future wife, Rebecca.
They were married in 1964. He started working as a messenger and worked his way up the ladder to Senior Vice President and Cashier of Operations retiring at 55 in 1997. He was a graduate of the banking program at the University of Wisconsin and served on various boards and worked on many campaigns and fundraisers in Evansville while working at NCB.
He served in the U. S. Army Reserves from 1963 to 1969. He was a member of the West Side Nut Club from 1972 until his death. He worked with Habitat for Humanity after retirement and enjoyed doing so.
Richard loved NASCAR and any Sunday they would race, he would spend his time watching his favorite driver, Dale Earnhardt. The family would like to thank the staff at Pine Haven Health & Rehab Center for their care and kindness to Richard these past 5-1/2 years. Also, we are grateful to Heritage Hospice for their care and compassion the final days of his life.
A special thanks to his best friend from high school, Ken Gates, who faithfully visited him while he was at Pine Haven. Thanks to all his friends from St. Paul’s Lutheran Church who stopped by to let him know they cared. A funeral service will be conducted at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 100 E. Michigan Street, Evansville, at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 with the Rev.
Chad Eckels officiating. There will be no visitation before the funeral service. Interment will be at the Lutheran Cemetery on St. Joseph Avenue.
