OBITUARY Joyce Marlin August 30, 1928 – September 4, 2018 Joyce G. (Eakes) Marlin died at 3:30 A.M. on September 4, at the age of 90. She was born in Evansville, Indiana on August 30, 1928, the only child of Joseph and Minnie (Brinker) Eakes. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her grandparents, Ernest and Laura (Brinker) Spalding.

Joyce was a graduate of Central High School, Class of 1945. She earned the B.S. degree in Business from Evansville College, and the M.A. degree in Business Education from Indiana State Teachers College in Terre Haute. Joyce taught 29 years in the Business Education Department of Reitz High School, retiring in 1986.

She also had been employed as a secretary at Mead Johnson & Co. as well as at Evansville Plating Works. Joyce was an active professional, serving as a member and President of the Evansville Business and Professional Women’s Club, and as a member of the Indiana Business Education Association, the Evansville Teachers Association, and the Evansville Retired Teachers Association. Joyce was a member of First Avenue Presbyterian Church 73 years, serving as Sunday School Superintendent, a Deacon and Elder, and at the time of her death she was chairman of the church’s Christian Education Board.

Following retirement, Joyce and her husband became Florida “snowbirds”, in 1987, spending the next 25 winters at their home in Harbor Cove, Sarasota, FL. Failing health brought them back to Evansville, where they became permanent residents of the Villas of Solarbron in 2007 and “regulars” at weekly bridge and clabber games there. Joyce is survived by her husband of 65 years, Ed Marlin, and her God Child, Lynda Mason.

The Anatomical Education Program, Indiana University School of Medicine, Department of Anatomy, will receive the body, followed by cremation and interment at Alexander Cemetery at a later time. A “moment of rememberance” will be observed during morning worship on Sunday, at First Avenue Presbyterian Church. Memorials may be sent to the church at 418 First Avenue, Evansville, IN 47710.
