Doris C. (Priolo) Terek January 6, 1932 – May 5, 2018 Doris C. (Priolo) Terek, 86, of Sandusky, ended her years-long battle with metastatic breast cancer on Saturday, May 5, 2018, at Stein Hospice Care Center with her husband and caregiver, Don, at her side. She is also survived by her daughter, Donna Terek, and son-in-law Paul Ryder, Jr. Doris grew up an only child in a two-family house in Bayonne, New Jersey surrounded by extended family. She attended Horace Mann… Read More » Elementary School in Bayonne and St. Dominic’s Academy in Jersey City.

Doris and Don grew up on the same street in Bayonne and married in 1952. Their only child, Donna, arrived in 1953. Together, the three-some were dubbed the “Three Ds” by their parish priest.

The tiny family moved to Detroit, Michigan in 1960 for Don’s job as a General Motors engineer. Doris learned to drive in the Motor City and volunteered at St. Dennis School in Madison Heights where Donna attended school. Don’s job would take them to Huron, Ohio in 1968, to New Jersey in 1971 and, after a few years, back to Huron when Don became chief engineer of New Departure Hyatt in Sandusky.

In retirement, Doris and Don wintered in Sarasota, Florida until her illness made traveling too difficult. They moved from their home in Beachwood Cove, Huron to a wheelchair-friendly house in Sandusky, a stone’s throw from Plum Brook Country Club where she had spent years perfecting her golf game. Whatever interest she pursued, Doris went all in.

She sewed beautifully tailored clothes, gardened and threw a great dinner party. When her daughter went off to college, so did Doris – at Firelands Community College where she insisted on being an A-student. Doris was a perfectionist with a capital P. Friends and family will remember her for her gorgeously wrapped gifts and holiday cookie platters, and her near-obsession with finding the absolutely “right” gift for anyone she loved.

If there were an award for shopping excellence, it would have been hers. She was a serious sports fan, spending weekends watching football, golf and championship ice skating. Her favorite books were historical fiction and biographies.

She and Don traveled extensively. To celebrate their fiftieth wedding anniversary, they sailed to Europe on the QE2 and returned home on one of the final flights of the Concorde. Other surviving family are Don’s brother, Rich Terek and his wife Ann of Jackson, New Jersey, and their children Dr. Richard Terek (Dr. Terry Schraeder) of Providence, Rhode Island; Susan Derobertis (Mario) of Summit, New Jersey; Robert Terek of Kailua, Hawaii; and Debra Terek of Sarasota, Florida.

Doris was preceded in death by her mother, Harriet J. (Joswick) Priolo in 2002 and two uncles, Stanley and Al Joswick. Friends may call on Friday, May 11, 2018 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E Perkins Ave, Sandusky. Prayers will be recited in the funeral home on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at 9:45 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am at St. Peter Catholic Church, 430 Main St. Huron, OH 44839 with Fr.

Jeffrey R. McBeth presiding. Those wishing to contribute to Doris’ memory may do so to Stein Hospice Services, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, OH 44870 or to one’s favorite charity.
