Richard T. Scheel, Sr. “Captain Nemo,” 81, of Sandusky, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 30, 2018 in Stein Hospice Care Center after a brief illness. He was born on February 10, 1937 on Middle Bass Island to the late Arthur F. and the late Carolyn C. (Taylor) Scheel. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

Dick loved fishing, boating, and just being around the lake. He lived his life on the lake as a salvage boat captain and charter boat captain. He enjoyed his retirement from the railroad.

Dick is survived by his children, Mary T. Gunn, Richard T. Scheel, Jr., Arthur F. Scheel, Sr., and Donald J. Aslinger; seven grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lois A. (Voorheez) Scheel; and grandson, Christian Jack Scheel. Friends may call on Friday, May 4 from 4-7 p.m. in Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave.

, Sandusky. Military honors will begin at 6:30 p.m. and will close visiting hours. Per Dick’s wishes, cremation will follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Dick’s name may be made to Stein Hospice, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, OH 44870. Condolences and gifts of sympathy may be shared with the family by visiting toftfuneralhome.com.
