Doris Elaine Williams, age 94, passed away January 24, 2019 at By Bluffs Care Facility in Harbor Springs, MI after a long illness. She was born Doris Elaine Lewis on December 19, 1924, in Brooksville, FL to parents Minerva B. (Smith) and Leslie Lewis. She grew up in the Flint, MI area where she went to Beecher High School.

She met Robert N. Williams who was visiting Flint while on leave from the United States Navy. They were married in May, 1945, and resided in San Francisco, CA, where he was stationed with the Navy. During their 22 year Naval career, they were stationed and raised three sons in San Francisco, CA, Bremerton WA, San Diego, CA, Guam, Great Lakes, IL, Japan, Millington Naval Station near Memphis, TN, and Phoenix, AZ.

Upon Mr. Williams’ retirement from the US Navy in 1962, they settled in Jonesboro, AR, near his childhood home. After her husband’s death, Doris returned to Fenton, MI in 1995 to be near family, and then she relocated to Drummond Island, MI in 2011. She loved playing cards and bingo, going to the casinos, flowers, reading, watching sports and spending time with family.

Doris is survived by her 3 sons, William L. Williams, San Diego, CA, Dale R. Williams of Magnolia, AR and David E. (Louise) Williams of Drummond Island, MI, grandsons Wayne Williams, Jackson, MI, Brian (Sarah) Williams, Livonia, MI, by 2 great-granddaughters, Haley Williams, Lincoln Park, MI and Micayla Williams, Livonia, MI, brother-in-law Oscar Williams, Trumann, AR, and sister-in-law Anna Mae (John) King, Memphis, TN. She was greatly loved and will be very much missed by her nine nieces: Terry (Kenneth) Donnelly, Grand Blanc, MI, Kim (Michael) McCreedy, Fenton, MI, Amber (Richard) Moore, Brighton, MI, Pam (Frank) Konecki, Alpena, MI, Debbie (George) Zigoris, Midland, MI, Deneen (Jamie) Scott, Fairfax, VA, Becky (Doug) Fugitt, Swartz Creek, MI, Lori (Joe) Dorman, Flushing, MI, Kelly Lewis, Flint, MI and many grand nieces and nephews. Doris was preceded in death by her husband Robert N. Williams, her father and mother Les and Minnie Lewis, her favorite Aunt Marvel (Don) Heywood, brothers and sisters-in-law Carlton and Wilma Lewis, and Kirk and Bettye Lewis.

Interment and memorial service will be at Jonesboro Memorial Cemetery, Jonesboro, AR at a date to be determined. Donations in honor of Doris E. and CWO Robert N. Williams, USN (ret. ) may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Memphis, TN at www.
