Obituary for Doris Shafer Doris Evelyn Shafer, 93, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 1, 2018. Doris was born on the family farm six miles east of Trent, Texas, November 30, 1924, has lived in Trent since 1947. Doris moved to Wisteria Place Assisted Living in Abilene in February of this year.

Doris was a devoted member of the Trent Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for more than 50 years. She was a devoted wife, mother and a friend to everyone she met. Throughout her life she worked on the family farms and served for several years as the co-manager and book keeper of the Planters Gin in Trent.

Doris is a graduate of Roscoe High School and she was proud of her Roscoe Plowboy heritage. Doris is survived by her husband of 77 years, Manzell “Red” Shafer; son Leroy and daughter in law Nancy Shafer; grandchildren: Shay Shafer, Dawn Haggard, Chance Shafer and wife Morgan, Colton Shafer, Trent Shafer and fiancé Caitlin Cox, Chelsie Shafer, and Trey Timms; 12 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived former daughters in law Gayla and her husband Rod Koppenhaver, and former daughter in law Gayle Johnson She was preceded in death by her parents Dennis Leroy Butler and Odessa Kelly Butler; brother Bob Butler, sister Eloise Price, sister Alma Judd, son Jerry Shafer; and grandson Aaron Shafer.

The family would like to express their appreciation for the staff of Wisteria Place Assisted Living, Renew Home Health (Winona, Donna and June), Hendrick Hospice, and Juanita, their loving caregiver in their home in Trent. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00PM Thursday, October 4, 2018 at Starbuck Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 10:00AM Friday, October 5, 2018 at Trent Methodist Church.

Burial will follow at Trent Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Starbuck Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Trent Methodist Church, Hendrick Hospice or to Trent Cemetery.
