Obituary for Doris I. Gowin Doris I. Gowin, 77, of Bethalto passed away on Friday, November 16, 2018 at Bethalto Care Center. She was born on March 1, 1941, in Jersey County, the daughter of Minor and Loretta (Evering) Gowin. Doris was a member of the Forest Homes 1st Southern Baptist Church and the Bethany Baptist Church.

She was also a past president of the Bethalto Senior Citizen’s Center, on the board for the Madison County Association of the Blind, the Fieldon Home extension and a member of the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed playing pinochle, bunko and hanging out with her nieces and nephews and loved to be with her family and friends. Doris was famous for her homemade rolls made from a family recipe.

She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, John and Gloria Gowin of Wood River; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Gowin of Jacksonville and Kathy Gowin of Bunker Hill; many nieces, nephews, Bob, Steve, Tim and Jay Lowrance, Fred, Ed and Ted Gowin, Susan Woelfel, Kay, Clark and Clayton Hildred, Robin Hildred Franks, Nancy Sullivan, Russell Gowin, Kim Stanley, Mike McCauley, Kristy Gowin and William “BJ” Gowin and several cousins and friends. Doris was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, William (Esther) Gowin, Garland “Red” (Darleen) Gowin, Juanita (Bob) Lowrance, Diana (Jerome) McCauley, James “Jim” Gowin, Joseph “Joe” Gowin and an infant brother George Gowin and five nieces and nephews, Cheryl Lowrance, Jeff McCauley, Pam McCauley Smith, Craig Gowin and Angela Gowin Kurz. Visitation will be 10:00 am until the time of funeral service at 12:30 pm on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto with Pastor Matthew McNeely officiating.

Burial will follow at Gunterman Cemetery in Fieldon, IL. Memorials may be made to the Madison Co. Association of the Blind and or the American Diabetes Association. To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Doris I. Gowin please visit our Sympathy Store.
