New Middletown – Doris Jean (Darin) Denmeade, 87, formerly of Youngstown, died Wednesday morning, September 19, 2018 at Masternick Memorial Health Care Center. Doris was born September 8, 1931 in Youngstown, a daughter of Charles and Irene “Peg” (DeWald) Darin. Raised in Youngstown, she was a 1949 graduate of Ursuline High School and attended Youngstown College, where she was a member of Delta Chi Epsilon Sorority.

After her schooling, she worked in the credit department for Strouss’ Department Store and later worked as a bookkeeper for National Cylinder, Mill Creek Realty, and Century 21 Realty. Later in her career, she also worked at local Giant Eagles doing food demonstrations. She was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in New Middletown, where she was a member of its Altar Guild and volunteered making pierogies in the cabbage patch.

Doris was also a member of the Ladies of Charities. In her younger years, she loved dancing on roller skates at the Boardman Roller Rink. Along with her husband, she enjoyed going to the casinos and traveling, with her favorite trip being their 50th wedding anniversary Alaskan cruise.

She also looked forward to attending Navy reunions with her husband, where she got to meet old and new friends. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Donald M. Denmeade, whom she married February 27, 1954; a daughter, Maribeth Mazur of Hampton, VA; two sons, Mark Denmeade of Massillon and Michael Denmeade of Woodstock, VT; son-in-law, Doug Crosby of North Lima; seven grandchildren, Jason (Frankie)Denmeade, Nicole (Ted) Mason, Danielle Mazur, Lily Denmeade, Ashlee Keltz, Caleb Crosby, and Cole Crosby; two great-grandchildren, Lauren and Malcom Brooks; and two great-great-grandsons. In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her daughter, Maria Crosby; and sister, Nancy Gizzi.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, where family and friends will be received from 10-10:45 a.m., prior to the Mass. Interment will be at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. Memorial tributes may take the form of contributions in Mrs. Denmeade’s name to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Youngstown, OH 44512.
