North Lima – A prayer service will be held on Monday, September 17, 2018 at 9:30 a.m. at the Clemente Funeral Home in Struthers and a Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:00 a.m. at St. Columba Cathedral in Youngstown for Joseph J. Shaik, 95, formerly of Poland, who passed away Thursday morning at Assumption Village. Joseph was born May 4, 1923 in Youngstown, Ohio a son of Phillip and Mildred Spicko Shaik. He lived in the area his whole life and served in the Army during WWII in the European Theatre where he earned two bronze stars as a Corporal.

He worked for 34 years as a store manager for the Humes Ethan Allen Carriage House from where he retired in 1985. He was a member of the St. Columba Cathedral and a member of the Croation Fraternal Union of America Lodge 66. Joseph married Helen A. Brizoski on January 18, 1943 and she passed away on May 18, 2009.

He leaves one daughter Patricia Altemus of Canfield, OH; one sister Mary Goss of Cortland, OH; three grandchildren Wendy (Jeff) Gorup, Christopher Shaik, Kari Shaik and one great-grandchild Emily Gorup. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and one son Joseph R. Shaik four brothers John, Steve and Tom Shaik and George Savnick; one sister Catherine Stainer. In his later years spent at the Assumption Village, he enjoyed spending time with his beloved family and attending all the activities there.

He especially enjoyed bingo, singing for the residents and staff and the attention given to him. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Assumption Village for the loving care they provided Joe during the past 5 years. Friends may call one hour before the prayer service at the funeral home from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Monday.
