Doris Lindsay Lusk December 21, 1919 – January 26, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| View Guest Book Entries| Send Sympathy Card On Saturday, January 26, 2019 Doris Marie Wood Lindsay Lusk, passed away at the age of 99, in Macomb, IL. Doris was born on December 21, 1919 to Jess and Nina Monninger Wood in Good Hope, IL. Doris was married to Wendell Lindsay on February 21, 1942 and lived on the Lindsay farm east of Macomb.

Wendell’s mother Mattie Lindsay lived with them until her death. Two sons, Leonard and Jerry, were born to Wendell and Doris. The Lindsays enjoyed all Bardolph School functions, the Bardolph Methodist Church, and were very active in their community.

Wendell passed away with a heart attack in 1967 at the age of 53. Doris stayed on the farm and worked at the WIU library as a library clerk for 20 years. After being alone for 10 years, she married a high school friend, Jay Lusk, of Good Hope.

They had a wonderful life together until his death in 1997. Doris lived on the Lindsay farm for 61 years, until her son, Leonard’s death, at which time she moved to town and found she could be very happy living in town, as well. Doris graduated from Good Hope High School in 1937.

After graduation, she took the train from Bushnell to Galesburg to enroll in Brown’s Business College for a 10-month term. She rented a one room apartment for $5. 00 a week in Galesburg.

She remembered being home sick for several days as she had never been away from home. She took advanced classes in typing, book-keeping, and shorthand. After completing the business coursework, Doris was hired at the newly opened Agricultural Stabilization & Conservation Service (A.S.C.S.

) government office. She mustered the courage, (“I was very shy”), to interview with three different men, and “they hired me that day at $3. 50 a day, and I thought that was GREAT!

” Doris made many new friends during the 4 years she worked at the A.S.C.S. office, including her future husband, Wendell Lindsay. Wendell was the corn sealer for McDonough County.

Doris was an expert at crocheting. She could crochet hanger covers while watching her favorite TV shows and never miss a stitch. She will be remembered for the beautiful hangers she gave to many friends and family members.

She will also be remembered for two favorite phrases, “Oh Lordy! ” and “My land! ” Doris was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Lucille Shuck and Lois Jabour, husbands, Wendell Lindsay and Jay Lusk, and son, Leonard Lindsay.

Doris is survived by son, Jerry (Janet) Lindsay, five grandchildren, and six great- grandchildren. Angela (Randy) Lindsay-Hardin, their children, Leo and Lenore, of Madison, WI. Allison Lindsay of Madison, WI.

Lara Lindsay (Gautham) Iyer, their children, Bodhi and Nina, of San Rafael, CA. Jeff (Heather) Lindsay, their children, Landon and Logan, of Normal, IL. Kathryn Lindsay of Chicago, IL.

Visitation will be Friday, February 1, 2019, from 4 – 7p.m. at Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen Funeral Home, in Macomb. Cremation will be accorded after the visitation. Private burial of ashes will be in Good Hope Cemetery at a later date.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at 11:00 a.m., at Good Hope United Methodist Church, 300 W Main St., Good Hope, IL. Rev. Timothy Wynne will officiate.

Doris was dearly loved by many people. She was kind to all she met. Doris was a member of Jerusalem United Methodist Church, 16665 E. 1600th St., Bushnell, IL 61422.
