Dorothea Klein Schmid April 01, 1934 – February 21, 2019 Share this obituary Upload Photo| View/Sign Guest Book| Send Private Condolences Dorothea Klein Schmid passed away peacefully at her home in New Braunfels on Thursday, February 21, 2019. Dorothea was born to Hilmar and Elenora Klein at Morris Ranch near Fredericksburg, Texas, on Easter Sunday April 1, 1934, and resided with her parents in Center Point, Texas. She married James Schmid on February 1, 1953 at the Notre Dame Catholic Church Rectory in Kerrville.

After graduating from Center Point High School, where she excelled in sports and academics, she worked for Bell Telephone in San Antonio. After moving to New Braunfels, she worked for Ol’ Bossy and then for many years at McKenna Memorial Hospital, where she retired. Dorothea loved quilting at home and with her quilting friends Rose Schultz, Dorothy Rauch, Mildred Kneupper, Rosalie Simon, Henrietta Wesch, Alice Pullen and many others.

She enjoyed playing the piano, which she learned at age 70. She was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church and Saint Ann’s Christian Mothers Society, where she enjoyed volunteering with the Bereavement Committee. Dorothea enjoyed family gatherings and the annual Klein Family Reunion in Fredericksburg and kept the genealogy records for the Klein family.

She was preceded in death by her parents Hilmar and Elenora Klein, grandchildren Julia Harst and Eric Tuch, great grandchild Payton Smith, and daughter-in-law Pam Witt Schmid. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, James Schmid, five children and their spouses: Patricia and James Tuch, Ronald and Lori Schmid, Jerry Schmid and Angela Edwards, Katherine and Tom Harst, and Darryl and Gina Schmid. She is also survived by her sisters Bernice Klein Ellis of Greenville, Texas, June Klein Kaiser and husband Ernie Kaiser of Center Point, Texas, as well as 15 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Many thanks to Dorothea’s physicians, nurses, Hospice care-givers, and Tanya from Home Instead. Visitation will be held Monday, February 25, 2019 from 9:00 – 10:00 am at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Funeral service will begin at 10:00 am followed by reception at the family home at 914 Water Spray Lane in New Braunfels.

Burial will follow the reception at 2:30 pm at Hill Country Memorial Gardens.
