Dorothy Mills Bird November 30, 1926 ~ December 17, 2018 We are saddened by the passing of a grand and wonderful woman who lived her life serving God, by serving her family and those around her. Dorothy Mills Bird passed away peacefully Monday morning, December 17, 2018 at Spring Gardens Senior Living in Lindon, Utah and was reunited and will be spending Christmas with her husband, Mc and was able to see her mother again for the first time in almost 80 years. Dorothy was 92 years old.

Dorothy was born November 30, 1926 to Samuel and Rhoda Lucinda Taggart Mills in Bothwell, Utah. Her family moved to Brigham City before her 6th grade year of school. Her mother passed away from cancer when Dorothy was 14 years old, and she and her sister, Jane, helped their father raise three younger sisters.

She graduated from Box Elder High School in 1944 where she enjoyed the challenge of academics and the joy of theater. She enrolled in the Army Nursing Program following graduation from high school and started her 43-year nursing career at the old Thomas Dee Memorial Hospital on 24th Street and Harrison. She retired from McKay Dee Hospital in 1987.

She married Charles McKell Bird on May 7, 1948 in the Logan Temple. They were married for nearly 70 years before Mcś passing. They lived in various locations in Ogden until settling down in Washington Terrace where they raised their children and lived until their move to North Ogden in 2003.

They were blessed with eight children: Stephen (Peggy), Provo; Cherilyn (Steve, deceased) Southwick, Dietrich, Idaho; Michael (Candy), Tremonton; Kevin (Debbie), Syracuse; Russell (Wendy), Orem; Jonathan (Yvette), Riverton; Randall (Jennifer), North Ogden; Kenneth (Heidi), Orem. They also have 32 grandchildren and 47 great-grandchildren. Following her nursing career, she and Mc served a mission to the CanadaWinnipeg Mission and later served in the Ogden Temple for many years after that.

She was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. She was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held various callings throughout her life, many of which were associated with music, and included directing many stake and ward choirs. She served as organist in her North Ogden Ward until her release in her early 90’s.

She was often asked to play piano for church services at Spring Gardens Senior Living. She loved music and taught piano for many years. She particularly loved teaching piano to her grandkids and anything that involved learning.

She and Mc also enjoyed travelling to many parts of the world together. She is survived by her children, and her sisters, Diane, LaNae and Sharon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mc; her parents, her brothers, Seaman and Charlie; and her sisters, Athlene, Helen and Jane.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the North Ogden Stake Center, 626 East 2600 North. Friends may visit with family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.

Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to the Missionary Fund of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
