Visitation will be from 6:00-7:00pm, Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at Feigum Funeral Home in Pierre, SD, concluding with a prayer service at 7:00pm. Funeral Services will be at 2:00 pm, Thursday, February 21, 2019 at the Blunt Methodist Church, Blunt SD.

Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Blunt, SD. Duane “Buck” Mercer was born June 14, 1944 in Pierre, SD to Arlo and Elnora (Hageman) Mercer. Buck grew up helping on the family farm/ranch near Blunt.

He graduated from Blunt High School where he enjoyed playing basketball. After briefly attending Black Hills State University and serving in the Army he returned home to take over the farm/ranch with his brother Virgil. Together, Buck and his wife of 47 years, Patricia “Pat” (Sundall) raised four children.

Buck enjoyed ranching and even after his son Travis and nephew David took over operations he could be found tooling about checking cows and crops and offering the boys suggestions on how things should be done. Besides ranching Buck loved sports, from watching his children play to always having the Vikings or Twins on the TV or radio. Basically if it was a sporting event he was interested.

Buck was in his element being a grandparent. Papa Buck loved taking the kids for drives around the farm and often would have one on his lap steering the pickup. He always looked forward to spending time with them.

Grateful for sharing his life are his wife Pat; sons Todd Mercer(Vonda) and Travis Mercer(Jackie); daughters Tracy O’Daniel (Allan) and Megan Mercer; grandsons Daulton, Carson, Owen, and Cooper; granddaughters Molly and Ava; brother Virgil; sisters Marlene and Norma; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Maxine Mercer, and brother Derwood Mercer. In lieu of flowers or memorials, donations to Avera at Home Hospice of Pierre would be appreciated as they took such wonderful care of Duane.
