Mrs. Edith Morris Allen, age 71, of Old Fort, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Thursday, March 7, 2019. A native of Buncombe County, she was born on November 27, 1947 to the late C.W. Morris and Clara Plemmons Morris. She was retired from Kearfott Corporation in Black Mountain where she worked in the Personnel Services Department.

Edith was a member of Cherry Springs Baptist Church where she served her Lord faithfully as the church pianist and also as Director of the Vacation Bible School. She will be remembered for the many selfless things she did for others, not only through the Teapot Ministry and the Red Hat Society, but the myriad unknown deeds done for those less fortunate than her. She believed in the old adage that one “can’t outdo the Lord” and she proved herself to be a vessel of His, always ready to serve.

The time she was blessed to spend with her family and dear friends was dear to her and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her. A granddaughter, Ansley Carpenter, preceded her in death. Saddened by their loss are her husband of 56 years, Jimmy Allen; three children, Angela Allen-Helms and husband Scott of Marion, Dr. Anthony Allen and wife Stacy of Hannibal, MO, and Andrea Allen Carpenter and husband Wesley of Marion; two sisters, Hazel Morris Torio and Barbara Morris Clark, both of Black Mountain; seventeen grandchildren, Tanner Allen, Cade, Mae-Li, Harper, Haze, Xander, Jett, Lucy, and Ruby Helms, Bethany, Evan, Leighton, Annaliese, and Brinley Allen, and Aidan, Kaeler, and Nevin Carpenter; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A service of remembrance and celebration of her life will take place on Sunday, March 10, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. at Cherry Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Marty Conner, Dr. Anthony Allen, and Rev. Jerry Lewis officiating.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in Cherry Springs Memorial Park. Flowers may be sent to Westmoreland Funeral Home in Marion.
