Edward Lee (E.L.) Howard, 85, of Grays Knob went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 23, 2018 at the Hazard ARH. Edward was born on June 27, 1933; he was a native and lifelong resident of Harlan County. He was a veteran and a retired coal miner.

He was a member of Dressin Church of God. Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Bradley and Sarah Johnson Howard, seven brothers, Ronnie, J.R., Rayburn, Carlyle, Bert, Roger and Nelson Howard and five sisters, Charlene Howard Amburgey, Junavee Martin Howard, Roberta Howard, Jewell Howard, and Nowana Howard. Survivors include his loving wife of 59 years, Shirley Smith Howard, one son, Rusty Lee Howard, two daughters, Kim North, and Karen Howard.

He is also survived by three grandchildren, Raychel North (special friend, Layne) Rebekah Anglian (D.J.) and Dustin North (Annie) and also two great grandchildren, Riley and Reed Anglian which was his heart and soul. Also surviving is a host of nieces and nephews along with several other relatives and friends. Visitation will be 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm Tuesday, (September 25) at the Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home.

Funeral services will follow in the chapel of Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home, at 7:00 pm with Rev. David W. Gross and Rev. Spencer Burkhart officiating.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 am on Wednesday, (September 26) at the Resthaven Cemetery in Keith, KY with Military Rites being observed by the Harlan Honor Guard. Please feel free to leave a condolence, memory, or photo at www.
