OBITUARY Edward M. Younginer, Jr. November 7, 1926 – September 14, 2018 COLUMBIA – Services for Edward Monroe Younginer, Jr., 91, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 19, 2018, at Riverland Hills Baptist Church, officiated by the Reverend Todd Phillips and the Reverend Wayne Cole. Interment will be private at Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that all donations be made to Irmo Fire District, 6017 St. Andrews Road, Columbia, SC 29212. Pallbearers will be members of the Irmo Fire District. Mr. Younginer died September 14, 2018, at The Brian Center, as a result of advanced dementia.

He was born on November 7, 1926 in Irmo, South Carolina. He was the only son of the late Edward Monroe Younginer, Sr. and Vera Mae Derrick Younginer. He was a member and a Deacon of Riverland Hills Baptist Church.

He attended public schools in Irmo, SC. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Army in Japan at the end of the war. He retired from South Carolina Electric and Gas Company in 1983 after 35 years of loyal service.

Upon His retirement from SCE&G, he was hired as a Security Officer at Lexington Medical Center, a job from which he retired in 1989. Upon his retirement from LMC, he went to work for Caughman-Harman Funeral Homes for 19 years. He was also a founding member and a volunteer firefighter with Irmo Fire District, reaching the rank of Assistant Chief.

Surviving is two sons, Edward M. “Butch” Younginer, III (Kathleen Sharpe Younginer) of Columbia and Wilbur Carlisle Younginer (Tina James Younginer) of Lawrenceville, GA; a daughter, Mary Earline Younginer Wilson Ward (Mark Ward) of Columbia; three grandchildren, (Branden Younginer, Melanie Younginer Maddox and Will Wilson); six great-grandchildren; one step-great- grandchild and one sister, Faye Younginer Mann. In addition to his parents, Mr. Younginer was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Younginer Jacobs and Mary Earline Younginer; a grandson, Justin Edward Younginer; his first wife and the mother of his children, Nancy Elizabeth Gantt Younginer and his second wife, Sara Ellen Nix James Younginer.
