Edward O. Rickert, 79 of Granite City, Illinois passed away on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at Christian Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. Edward was born on August 10, 1939 in Granite City; the son of the late Edward and Anna (Glozik) Rickert. Edward gave 42 years at Granite City Steel as a heater in the coke ovens, retiring in 2000.

He was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Granite City; a member of the Granite City Eagle Lodge #1126 and proudly served his country in the United States Army. Edward will be remembered for his kind heart and all the special times he shared with his family and friends. Edward is survived by and will be missed by his son; William (Heather) Rickert of Pontoon Beach, Illinois; daughter, Kerry (Jimmy) Flanary of Granite City, Illinois; grandchildren, Emily (Ricky) Boyer, Drew Rickert, Sydney Rickert, Magdalena (Bracken) Tadych; great-grandchildren, Aubree Boyer, Caleb Boyer; brothers, Ray (Suzanne) Rickert, Michael Rickert; sisters, Carole (Louis) Mitchell, Nancy (Ralph) Copp.

In addition to his parents, Edward was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon (Lamping) Rickert, whom he married on August 13, 1966. In celebration of Edward’s life, a funeral mass will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at 9:30 a.m. with Fr. Zac Edgar officiating at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, 2300 Pontoon Road in Granite City.

Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville. Memorials are suggested to St. Elizabeth School. Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City is serving the family.
