A golden heart stopped beating; hard working hands at rest; it broke our hearts to see you go; God only takes the best. Edwin Crawford Taylor, age 85, life-long resident of Elizabethton, Tennessee passed peacefully into eternal life Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at Hillview Health Center after a brief illness. He was preceded in death by parents, Crawford and Pearl Taylor; brother, Ronald Taylor; and a nephew, Eddie Wheeler.

He is survived by his beloved sister, Peggy Taylor Dykes and brother-in-law Ron Dykes; a cousin, Sue Maxwell; and a nephew, Doug Wheeler and wife Sandy. Edwin, who retired from the Veterans Administration was a professional musician excelling at numerous musical instruments but especially the piano and guitar. He accompanied many well-known artists of the mid-twentieth century including Mother Maybelle Carter and Johnny Cash.

Edwin was a former member of the Song Masters Quartet as well as a 20 year member of Bonnie Lou and Buster. Among his many awards her most cherished was recognition from his church for 70 years of service and the establishment of Edwin Taylor Day. Edwin’s devotion to his church and community by caring for the elderly and sick was legendary.

The family wishes to thank the outpouring of sympathy from his many friends but especially Edwin’s dear friend Chad Ellis for his tremendous assistance during Edwin’s hospitalization. In addition the family wishes to offer sincere gratitude to the administrative and nursing staff at Hillview Health Center for their excellent care. Per Edwin’s request a graveside service will be held at Happy Valley Memorial Park, 2708 Elizabethton Highway, Johnson City, TN on Sunday, March 24, 2019 at 2:00 PM with Reverend Eric Wright, officiating.

Music will be under the direction of Director Dan Boner of ETSU Bluegrass Old Time Country Music Program. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Poplar Grove Baptist Church, 2829 Highway 91, Elizabethton, TN 37643. Online condolences may be shared with the family on our website www.
