Obituary for Eileen Scott Eileen Scott, 90, of Kingsford died on Friday, May 26, 2018 at ManorCare in Kingsford. Eileen was born on January 23, 1928 to Dr Leo J and Helen “Nellie” (D’Arcy) Flatley. She grew up in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
She attended high school at Holy Child in Waukegan, Illinois. She attended Mount Mary College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She earned a degree in Social Work from the University of Colorado in Boulder, Colorado.
Growing up, Eileen and her family spent their summers at the family cottage on North Lake in Spread Eagle, Wisconsin. It was there that she met her future husband, Russell B “Hap” Scott. They were married on June 10, 1950 at St Thomas Aquinas Church in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
He preceded her in death on August 18, 2003. They made their home in Iron Mountain, Michigan where Hap and his father and brother owned Standard Service and Supply Company. Together they raised five children.
Eileen was an active member of her parish, St Mary & St Joseph in Iron Mountain, for 68 years. She was a CCD teacher for many years. She served on the Liturgy Committee.
She was a Eucharistic Minister and brought communion to the parish residents at Freeman’s for nearly 30 years. Her biggest passion was being a Flower Fairy for nearly 40 years. She also volunteered at St Vincent de Paul.
Eileen was also a member of Tuesday Study Club for 60 years before going inactive in 2010. She was also a member of Women’s Club and a former member of the Chippewa Club. Eileen loved to play the piano.
She also enjoyed watercolor painting. She loved boating on Lake Superior. In their later years, Hap and Eileen purchased a motor home and traveled throughout the U.S. and Canada.
Their most memorable trip was to Alaska. Eileen is survived by four children, Pat (Sally) of Merriman, Sue Reiten of Delafield, Wisconsin, Tom (Kathy) of Glencoe, Illinois, and Carol of Norway. She is further survived by nine grandchildren, Julie Cupchak, Becky Richards, Russell (Megan) Scott, Leigh Reiten, Maureen Reiten-Schutzer, Mary (Kyle) Craft, USAF MSgt Tom (Kari) Scott, Ann (Kevin) Sendre, William Scott, and eight great-grandchildren.
Eileen was preceded in death by her husband, Hap in 2003, daughter Marrijane in 2001, grandson Thomas Reiten in 1998, and great-grandson, Jamey Navarre in 2017, her parents, sister Jeanne, and brothers Tom and Jim. Visitation and a Memorial Mass will be held at a later date and will be announced by Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home. Burial will be in Cemetery Park.
Memorials in Eileen’s name will be appreciated made to the St. Mary and St Joseph Flower Fairy Fund. Eileen’s family would like to thank the staff at ManorCare and Dr Donald Jacobs for the kindness, caring and compassion extended to her. It will never be forgotten.
