Obituary for Noreen Bertha Corsi Noreen B. Corsi, 97, of Iron Mountain, MI, went to be with her Lord and Saviour on Sunday, September 23, 2018, with her family at her side. She was born February 25, 1921 in Marquette, MI, daughter of the late Lester and Martha (Zintman) Serfas. Noreen arrived in Iron Mountain in the spring of 1939 and has been a resident ever since.

Noreen married Woodrow Corsi Sr. on December 4, 1941 in Iron Mountain. He preceded her in death on September 23, 1985. One of Noreen’s employment opportunities was a “live in” cook at the Ford House in Kingsford.

In that position, she met one of the industrial giants of that time, Henry Ford. She reminisced that on one occasion, Mr. Ford came into her kitchen and complimented her on the meal. He sat down at the kitchen table and asked for another slice of her delicious pie.

When asked what he was like, she said he was down to earth and didn’t put on any airs. In the early 50’s, she interviewed for a cook’s position at the Roma Restaurant. The owner asked her if she could cook.

Her reply was, “five kids, one husband, a mother-in-law, yes, I can cook and what I don’t know, you can teach me”. She got the job. Noreen worked at the Roma Restaurant until baby number six was born in 1960.

With all but one child in school, Noreen started a career in cleaning homes and several local businesses over the next 20 years. She was a member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church and was very active in the Ladies Aid Association for many years. She also served as a Sunday School Teacher and School Superintendent for several years.

Noreen was also very active in the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) where she served as their local Chaplin. Noreen loved her flowers and was an avid gardener. She had little time for other hobbies as she spent most of her free time with church and DAV responsibilities.

Most importantly was the love she had for her family and friends, and the time she spent with them. Noreen is survived by three children, Robert (Vicky) Corsi Sr. of Quinnesec, Trudy (John) Deldin of Iron Mountain and Faye (Don) Cesario of Green Bay, Wis. ; two daughter-in-laws, Georgia Corsi of Vulcan MI, Elaine Corsi of Hillsboro, Oregon; two brothers, Raymond Surfass of Gwinn, Mich.

and John (Jane) Misener of Eugene, Oregon; one sister, Joan Whaley of Battle Creek, Mich. ; seven grandchildren, Ted (Peggy) Corsi Jr., Michelle (Brad) Pellegrini, Tina Corsi, Robert (Jennifer) Corsi Jr., Jeremy Corsi, Sarah Corsi, and Anthony Cesario; seven great-grandchildren, Breanne, Kaitlyn, Sydney, Brendan, Kyley, Benjamin, and Reagan; and one great-great grandson, Woodrow. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Even though she loved each of her grandchildren deeply, she shared a close and special bond with her grandson, Anthony. She was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow; her sons, Woodrow Corsi Jr., Ted Corsi Sr., and Gene Corsi; siblings Verna VanBuren, Robert Serfas, Albert Serfas and Betty Long. Visitation will be held from 9:30 am until 11:00 am on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at the Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain.

Funeral services will follow at 11:00 am at the church with Reverend Stephen Lehmann officiating. Pallbearers will be Ronald Cerasoli, Anthony Cesario, Don Cesario, Rob Corsi, Ted Corsi Jr., and Ray Paoletti. Burial will be in Iron Mountain Cemetery Park.
