Obituary for Margie L. McCabe Margie Luella McCabe (nee Stark and Johnson), age 91, passed away surrounded by her family on October 11, 2018 at Manor Care Nursing Home in Iron Mountain. Born in Burr Oak, Wisconsin on November 10, 1926 to Ervin and Olga (Olson) Stark, Margie grew up well-acquainted with the hard work living on a dairy farm involves: feeding and milking cows, caring for chickens and pigs, and working in the fields and kitchen. Although she carried that work ethic throughout her life – as a housekeeper, at Electric Auto Light making lighting harnesses for vehicles during the war effort, and later as a secretary for Kimberly Clark and as a receptionist for Dr. John Fornetti, among other jobs, Marge’s greatest joy came from making things for others – cooking, baking, sewing, and quilting.
Apple pies, pizzelle, biscotti, and cheesecakes were some of her specialties, and her house always smelled like the anise she used in her baking. One of her most prized possessions was a sewing machine that almost required a PhD to run, and everyone in the family has at least one quilt she made especially for them. Margie loved mystery novels, Twizzlers, naps, and most of all, her family.
She is survived by her children, Kristi (Rich) Celello, Karen Johnson, John McCabe, and Paul (Tara) McCabe; grandchildren, Erin Celello (Aaron Olver), Lindsey (Tommy) Cianflone, Paige McCabe, Ian McCabe, and Hugh McCabe; and great-grandchildren Zeke and Max Olver, and Lorenzo and Lidia Cianflone. She is preceded in death by her parents, her special aunt and uncle, Mabel and Ernie Klimpen, who largely raised her, her sister, Beverly and brother-in-law Richard Morkwed, and her husbands, Wayne Johnson and John “Jack” McCabe. The family wishes to offer gratitude to the entire staff at Manor Care Nursing Home for their exemplary love and care for Margie during the three years she spent there.
Special thanks goes to Dr. Don Jacobs, the nursing staff, and especially Gail, her daily caregiver with whom Margie had a special bond. Visitation will be held at the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home on Saturday, October 20, 2018 from 9-10:30 am. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 am at the funeral home.
Fr. Mike Woempner will officiate. Burial will follow at Cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.
