Obituary for Joyce C. Gordon Joyce C. Gordon, 90, of Iron Mountain passed away Thursday, October 10, 2018 at Freeman’s Nursing Home in Kingsford. Joyce was born July 14, 1928 in Iron Mountain, daughter of the late Martin Makoutz and Cecelia (Delangis) Makoutz Rich. Joyce trained at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago and graduated in 1960, and started out working as a RN in pediatrics.

Joyce worked as a nurse in multiple areas of the country. She became specialized in geriatrics and spent a long career doing what she loved. She worked as the Director of Nurses in Fond u lac, WI for 3 years, at the VA Research Center in Chicago for 10 years, at the VA in Tucson, Arizona for 3 years, and eventually spent the last 22 years of her career at the VA Hospital in Iron Mountain.

After her retirement she also served as a volunteer for years, taking patients out to activities and appointments. She was a Member of American Business Women’s Association (ABWA) and was named Woman of the Year in 1994. Joyce was also a member of St. Mary & St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iron Mountain.

Joyce was preceded in death by two sisters, Vivian Wood and Lorraine Schintgen; two brothers, Martin Jr, and Gerry Makoutz and one niece Kristine Ferris. She is survived by several nieces and nephews, Connie & (Bob) Johnston, Jack and Dennis Schintgen, Wendy (Bill) Hanson, Louis & Teena Schintgen, Lorrie (Lloyd) Cudnokofsky, Steven & Sheila Wood, Kathy (John) Denton, and Dawn (Ronald) Moore: and several great nieces and nephews. A visitation for Joyce will be held at Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. followed by a service at 1:00 p.m. at Funeral Home Officiated by Fr.
