Obituary for Ortensia M. “Vera” Swanson Ortensia “Vera” Swanson, formerly of Iron Mountain passed away on October 15th at her home in DePere, WI, with her children by her side. Vera was born on October 17, 1925 in Chioggia, Italy to the late Amelia and Luigi Doria. She married Richard “Dick” Swanson on May 15, 1954 in Venice, Italy.

Vera was a loving and devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed many years of traveling abroad first with her husband and then her children. She made friends easily and had many loyal customers during her 30 years running her own business “Casa Nostra” making ravioli and other Italian pasta and sauce.

Later in life she enjoyed going to the casino with her husband. Even though the last 10 years of her life she battled Alzheimer’s and heart disease, she maintained an extraordinary will to live and enjoyed singing and dancing to her favorite Italian songs. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her loving husband of 58 years, Dick; her sisters, Norma and Elsa; and her brother, Aldo.

Vera is survived by her sister, Sonia of Torino, Italy; her daughter, Kristin of DePere, WI; and sons, Rick (Jane) of Sagola, Mark (Coveny) of Angier, NC, Michael of Cairo, Egypt; and grandchildren, Rick, Jessica, Katie, Brandon, Eric and Michaela. Visitation will be held on Friday from 11:00 am to 12:00 noon at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 noon at the funeral home.

Rev. Lee Liverance will officiate. Burial will be in Iron Mountain Cemetery Park.
