DeMarte Vavala Pollino, 94, formerly of 430 Fourth Avenue in Johnsonburg, died on Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 30, 2018, following a lengthy illness at Elk Haven Nursing Home, where she was residing. Born on June 1, 1924, in Kane, she was the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth Orlando DeMarte.

On Nov. 28, 1946, she married Salvatore Vavala; he preceded her in death on June 20, 1970. She later married Angelo W. Pollino on Nov.

3, 1973, he also preceded her in death on Jan. 16, 2017. Eleanor resided in Johnsonburg since 1946 following her graduation from Kane Area High School in 1942.

She was a member of the Holy Rosary Church, Maria Jose Lodge. She loved golfing, baking and eating out. She especially loved going to the casino and shopping at the mall.

Eleanor is survived by four children: Jude Vavala and his wife Teresa of St. Marys; Paul Vavala and his wife Sally of Kersey; Liz, Mrs. Rick Boni of Ridgway; and Josie, Mrs. Joe Feikls of Kane; eight grandchildren: Jennifer Vavala; Amy, Mrs. Eddie Warmbrodt; Michael Vavala and his wife, Tara; Zoe, Mrs. Joe Dussia; Trisha, Mrs. Mike Keller; Randy Klaiber and his wife, Sharon; Heath Klaiber and his wife, Kelly; and Leah, Mrs. Troy Horning; nine great-grandchildren: Alexa Stauffer, Carissa and Samantha Vavala, Charlie Warmbrodt, Braeden Keller, Pearl, Brooks and Cada Klaiber and Bellimy Horning; four step grandchildren: Mary Miller, Katie Chipman, Justin and John Feikls, four step-great-grandchildren: Jason and Ryan Miller; and Emily and Lily Crandall. She was the last member of her immediate family. Alongside her parents and husbands, Eleanor was predeceased by five brothers, Pat, Martin, Paul, Nick, Tony, and Joseph DeMarte; and one sister, Katie Fanus.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Eleanor J. DeMarte Vavala Pollino will be conducted at Holy Rosary Church, Johnsonburg on Saturday, Nov. 3, at 10 a.m. with Rev. David Wilson, pastor, officiating.

Burial will follow in Holy Rosary Cemetery. Friends will be received at the the Anthony F. Ferragine Funeral Home, 401 Chestnut Street in Johnsonburg on Friday, Nov.
