Obituary for Elmer “Tug” Thompson Saginaw, Michigan. Passed away Tuesday, September 4, 2018. Age 82 years.

The son of the late Elmer and Mary (Clark) Thompson, Elmer was born February 22, 1936 in Saginaw, Michigan. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954-1957. Elmer married Grace M. Binasio on April 19, 1958.

She predeceased him on January 3, 2016. He was employed as a millwright for Grey Iron Foundry for 32 years until his retirement in 1987. Elmer was a member of Christ the Good Shepherd Catholic Church.

In his younger years, he was an accomplished athlete for Saginaw High School. He was an avid duck hunter, golfer and enjoyed watching the Detroit Tigers. Surviving are one daughter and three sons, JoAnn Pogoreski, Matthew, Daniel and Martin Thompson, all of Saginaw; five grandchildren, Katie (Jon) Villanueva, Eric Pogoreski (Crystal Reinhardt), Travis, Morgan and Brandi Thompson; seven great-grandchildren, Hunter, Joey, Zoie, Lexi, Rylei, Tyler and Bentley; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Joseph Binasio, Paul Getty, Katherine Santino; several nieces and nephews.

Elmer was preceded in death by three sisters, Marilyn Wartenberg, Betty Getty and Lorraine Conlay. Honoring Mr. Thompson’s wishes cremation has taken place. A Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at Christ the Good Shepherd Catholic Church-St. Helen Site.

Rev. Fr. Ronald Wagner will officiate.

Interment will follow in St. Andrew Cemetery with Military Honors rendered by American Legion Post #439. Friends may call at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd. , (between Shattuck and McCarty), where the family will receive friends on Monday from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday at Christ the Good Shepherd Catholic Church from 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass.

There will be a Vigil Service 6:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the Michigan Heart Association, University of Michigan Cardiovascular Center or Christ the Good Shepherd Parish.
