Erma Stuart Hardison, 93, of Owensboro, died on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at her home. She was born at home on July 31, 1924 in Belton, KY which is now Dead Man’s Curve, formerly known as Stuart’s Curve. She was the middle child of seven children born to the late Thomas Pennington Stuart and Eva Draper Stuart.

Erma was married to Bewley Hardison who passed away in 1994. She worked at a factory in Evansville, Indiana during World War II assembling airplane wings while her husband was in the service. She always loved gospel singing and sang alto for different gospel quartets in the late 1930’s and early 1940’s and always sang in the church choir.

Erma was a member of Harvest Baptist Church for 37 years, where she taught Sunday School classes for many years before joining Cornerstone Baptist Church in 2007. She always read her Bible daily and loved her church family. In the 1950’s she worked in Owensboro at Woolworths Department Store.

She later worked at Owensboro-Daviess County Hospital as a bookkeeper for many years and retired from Yager Materials in 1989. Erma always loved where she worked and the people she worked for. She was a life member of the DAV where she was the secretary-treasurer for 17 years.

She loved to cook, working word puzzles and spending time with her family and friends. She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Franklin Stuart, T.W. Stuart, Charles R. (Bob) Stuart and Lendle (Len) Stuart; four sisters, Pauline Stuart Mowry, Eva Mae Stuart Hayden Isabell Coy, and Doris Tines; two grandchildren, Charles Adam and Sarah Beth Stevens; a niece and nephews, Thomas Eugene Hayden, Benita Sutton and Billy Stuart. Survivors include her two daughters, Brenda Conder (Jerry) and Judy Stamper (Eddie); a sister, Patsy Hammond (Jerry); a brother, Hutch McElwain (Sharon); grandchildren, Chris Stamper (Dana) of North Hampton, PA, John Stamper (Genie) of Corydon, IN, Andy Stamper of Corydon, IN, Jeremy Conder (Jessica) of Knottsville, KY, Brandy Abell of Owensboro, and Jamie Conder of Coconut Creek, FL; great-grandchildren, Richard, Zachary and Jonathan Stamper, Shelby and Jackson Stamper, Anna, Alex and Jacob Stamper, Allison, Lane, Ashley and Jakob Conder, and Railey and Katie Abell; two sister in laws, Joyce Stuart and Nancy Stuart; many nieces and nephews; her cat, Ginger and her loving caregivers.

Funeral services are at 1 p.m. on Friday, June 15, 2018 in the Chapel at James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory. Burial will follow in Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation is from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and after 10:00 am Friday until service time.
