EVA’s Obituary Eva Josephine Storebo, age 98, resident of Moose Lake, formerly of Bruno and Sandstone, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 4th, 2019 at Augustana Mercy in Moose Lake. She was born at home in Hughes County, SD on March 13th, 1920 to Albert and Frances (Meis) July. Eva was raised on that farm until the age of 12 when she took a train from Blunt, SD to Bruno, MN to visit her aunt.

She was so impressed with eastern central Minnesota’s scenery and vegetation that she decided to stay in Bruno and not return home. Eva met Adolph Storebo at age 16 and they were married in Kerrick, MN on August 22nd, 1936. They made their home on a farm just north of Bruno where they raised three children together.

Eva was the most dedicated and loving Mother. Adolph passed away in 1966. Eva was remarried to Alois Peneder in 1970 and they moved to Sandstone, MN where they lived for nearly 30 years.

Eva worked as a home health aid for Pine County, and as a cook for the Bruno School and the Polka Dot Café in Bruno. Above all other work, Eva’s favorite “job” was being a grandmother. One of her most proud achievements was obtaining her GED at the age of 76.

Eva was a determined, and hard working woman. She was a very talented caterer and baker, creating countless extravagant graduation and wedding cakes. Eva was a master gardener and took great pride in that.

After Alois’s death in 2007, Eva made her final home back in Bruno. She loved canning, bird and wildlife watching, and being a member of Sacred Heart Church in Bruno, and most recently, St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Sandstone. Eva was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Adolph in 1966 and husband, Alois in 2006; and her sisters, Frances Kuhlman and Rosemary Taylor.

Her memory will be cherished by her children, Beverly Colton of Carlton, MN, Millie (Mitch) Storebo of Bruno, MN, and Edward (Melinda) Storebo of Pine City, MN; 9 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; her brothers, Joseph July of St. Paul, MN and James (Mildred) July of Sandstone, MN; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service mass will be held later in the spring, 2019. Details are currently pending.
