Evelyn Lorretta Davis January 10, 1951 – December 14, 2018 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Evelyn Loretta Mack Davis, daughter of the late Elder Joe Mack and Christine Benjamin Mack, was born on January 10, 1951 in Sumter, SC. Evelyn departed this life on December 14, 2018 at Palmetto Health Richland in Columbia, SC, surrounded by her loving family. Evelyn, affectionately known as “Retta,” graduated from Edmunds High School in 1968.

After graduation, she was employed with Campbell Soup Company for 18 years before early retirement. During retirement, Evelyn earned a certificate in child care and worked as a day care provider with New Hope Kindergarten, L. C. Childcare, and Glassche Childcare before her illness. At an early age at St. Peter AME Church in Mayesville, SC, Evelyn accepted Christ as her personal savior.

She later joined New Birth Church of God in Christ as a church mother, where she served on the Usher’s Board and Pastor’s Aide Committee. Mother Evelyn worked faithfully attending noon day prayer and Sunday morning worship services throughout her illness. Mother Evelyn leaves to cherish her precious memories: two children, Fredericka A. (Marvin) Plowden of St. Charles and Cory D. Davis of Atlanta, GA; one granddaughter, Octavia T. Plowden; six sisters: JoAnn (Norman) Manning, Bettie (Albert) Jelks, Jacqueline (John) Turner all of Sumter, SC, Deneace (John) Grinnell, Vandretiss (Horace) Gilbert, and Ranae Mack all of Columbia, SC; one brother, Clifton (Shirley) Mack of Manning, SC; one paternal step-grandmother, Louise Mack of Mayesville, SC; her dedicated care givers, Alexis Pugh, Fran Van Buren, and ShaQuana White, whom provided special love and attention, memories to her former husband, Freddie Davis; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, Mother Evelyn was preceded in death by one nephew, Christopher Mack. Public Viewing will be held on Thursday, December 20, 2018 from 2-6pm at Job’s Mortuary. Ms. Davis will be placed in the church on Friday, December 21, 2018 at 12noon for viewing until the hour of service.

Funeral Services will be held at 1pm on Friday, December 21, 2018 at New Birth Church of God in Christ 307 W Oakland Avenue Sumter, SC, with Elder Julius C. Ragin, Pastor, Officiating. Interment will follow in Mayesville Community Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the home, 1751 Kolb Road Sumter, SC 29154.
