Evelyn Lucille Southard, 92, of Griffithville, Arkansas, passed away at her home Monday, March 18, 2019. She was born April 2, 1926 to Wade Franklin and Josie Bailey. She was a member of Dogwood Methodist Church.

She worked outside the home for a short time, but what she really loved was working on the farm driving a tractor, big trucks and even the combine. No challenge was too big and you didn’t tell her she couldn’t do something because she would prove you wrong every time. She was a homemaker that raised five girls and many nights after working in the field all day you could find her in the kitchen canning until the wee hours the next morning.

She liked to sew, quilt, crochet, was an excellent cook and made the best Christmas candy ever. She enjoyed baby-sitting grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be missed.

Evelyn is survived by five daughters, Jammie Whaley of Idabel, Oklahoma, Debbie Havener (Larry) of Griffithville, Jackie English (Lareece) of Searcy, Arkansas, Freddie Whaley (Terry) of Griffithville and Candi Deen (Randy) of Searcy. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Joshua Havener (Becky) of Jackson, Georgia, Matthew Havener of Griffithville, Brittany Martin (Jason) of Edmond, Oklahoma, Ryan Whaley (Stephanie) of Griffithville, Courtney Bright (Wesley) of Griffithville, Ashley Donovan (Casey) of Spring Hill, Tennessee, Jameson Deen of Austin, Arkansas and Kelli Deen of Searcy; ten great-grandchildren, Landon, Ethan and Emersyn Martin of Edmond, Oklahoma, Hallie and Adisyn Havener of Jackson, Georgia, Olyvea and Ryder Whaley of Griffithville, Bentley and Everett Bright of Griffithville, Raegan Donovan of Spring Hill, Tennessee and Brooke Donovan to be born in June. In addition to her parents, Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Burl Southard; a sister, Geraldine James; three brothers, Neland Bailey, Wade Bailey Jr. and Richard Bailey and a step-granddaughter, Lea Whaley.

Visitation will be Friday, March 22, 10a.m.-11a.m. at the Dogwood Methodist Church, Griffithville. Funeral Service will follow at 11:00a.m. Interment will be at Dogwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Dogwood Cemetery Fund, Arkansas Hospice or American Diabetes Association.
