Evelyn Evadine (Stewart) Tucker, beloved wife, mother and grandmother passed away May 3, 2018 at the age of 90. She was born on Sept. 6, 1927 in La Grande, Oregon to Chauncey LeRoy and Amy Francis (Miller) Stewart.
She lived there until the age of 7 when the family moved to Burns, Oregon. She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and taught in Sunday School and Primary. She enjoyed submitting entries of canned and baked goods into the Harney County Fair each summer and received many ribbons for her efforts.
Being the oldest in the family she was her mother’s right hand and learned early how to take care of others. This trait she carried and nurtured throughout her entire life. Her nickname while growing up and is still used by her siblings is “Evie”.
One day at Church in Burns in 1944 a young military serviceman from Utah showed up after walking three miles into town from the airport where he was stationed. Evie was smitten by this handsome young man and her mom invited him to dinner every Sunday after that for about 3 months. Her mom also found out his favorite pie was lemon meringue and saw to it that there was one served every Sunday.
Dewey Tucker was transferred to Mountain Home, ldaho and while there called and proposed marriage to Evadine over the phone. She accepted and they were Sealed in the Salt Lake Temple in Salt Lake City on Jan. 26, 1945.
She joined him everywhere he was stationed until he was shipped out to the Philippines just as WWll was ending. After the war they returned to Burns so her new husband Dewey could work at Edward Hines Lumber Company. Here they raised 5 children.
Evadine loved being close to family and also enjoyed sewing, embroidery crocheting, cooking, gardening (especially African Violets), camping and in her latter years word searches. Family was always her priority and she served her parents all their lives as well as helping neighbors. The family moved to Corvallis, Oregon in 1968 so the boys could all attend college while living at home.
Dewey and Evadine owned a Rich Maid lce Cream Store where her parents and children worked to help the family. Dewey was employed at Hewlett-Packard in 1976 until he retired and all the children were married and moved away. As their health began to decline the children asked them to come to Utah where some of their children could help care for them so they moved to West Point, Utah in 2010.
Evadine will be greatly missed but never forgotten. She was preceded in death by her sweetheart Dewey on Feb. 26, 2018 one month after they celebrated their 73rd Anniversary and by her sister Betty Hanson.
She is survived by her other siblings: Everett Stewart, Daryel (Pat) Stewart, Linda (Buck) Withers; children: Dewey Duane (Bertha) Tucker of Vancouver, WA; Richard (Linda) Tucker of West Point, UT; David Tucker of Layton, UT; Debra (Wayne) Faw of Elgin, OR; Deanna (Paul) Lee of Sandy, UT; 20 grandchildren and 44 great grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday May 9, 2018 at 11a.m. with a viewing prior from 10 to 10:45a.m. at the West Point 5th Ward Church Building, 3290 West 800 North, West Point, UT.
