HILTJE (HILDA) VANDERWOUDE, 101, passed away peacefully Friday June 8th, 2018 in Roy, Utah. Hiltje Drent Van Der Woude was born on December 16th, 1916 in Groningen, Netherlands, the daughter of Tiddens and Tetje Drent On January 5, 1942 she married the love of her life Jacob VanDerWoude in Groningen, Netherlands. She, along with her husband, two sons and parents traveled to America by ship in April,1952.

They lived in Montana for a short period of time and then settled in Utah where they raised two sons. Jacob passed away in 1990. Hilda worked as a house cleaner for many years.

She and her husband were very proud people and took care of everything they owned. They were able to provide a good stable life for their family. Hilda always put the needs of others above her own.

. She would sit for hours knitting an afghan, sweater, booties or whatever was asked of her. She had lived through many hard times including the Nazi invasion of Holland.

It made her into a generous person with a very big heart. When she had a quiet moment it was spent with crossword puzzles, or reading the newspaper. She welcomed guests into her home as if they were part of her family.

Her kitchen held coffee, tea, cookies and chocolate for anyone wanting to pull up a seat and visit. Her guests often enjoyed hearing stories from her past while playing cards around the kitchen table. Hilda loved traveling and tried to make a trip back to Holland every other year.

She enjoyed cooking Sunday dinners for her family. Her grandchildren fondly remember the candy in her purse, dutch cheese, black licorice, red cabbage and the most delicious chicken noodle soup! In her later years she would travel to Arizona to spend time with her granddaughters and great grandchildren.

Her life revolved around those she loved. May we all honor and remember her in a way that makes her proud. Survived by four granddaughters, countless great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband Jacob, two sons, only sister and two grandsons. Mark 11:25 Whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father who is in heaven will also forgive you your transgressions. Viewing Monday July 2nd at Myers Mortuary in Roy 5865 S 1900 W from 1:00- 2:30pm.
