Obituary of Everson Clark Holland Patent- Everson O. Clark, 86, husband of Evelyn, passed away on Tuesday, September 11, 2018, at St. Luke’s Home, in New Hartford. Affectionately known as “Clarkie,” he was born in Rome, on February 8, 1932, a son of George E. and Roberta Elizabeth Williams Clark. Everson grew up in Rome, where he received his education at Rome Free Academy, later earning his GED.
In January, 1950, Mr. Clark entered the US Airforce, serving his country as an Air Craft Mechanic, state side and in Korea during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged on September 9, 1953, with the rank of Airman First Class. In 1953, Clarkie returned to Rome, where he began his employment at Griffiss Airforce Base, first in Supply, followed by a career of many years as an Air Craft Mechanic, before retiring in January, 1988, as a Radar Site Technician.
On October 28, 1961, Clarkie married the love of his life, Evelyn K. Jones, at The First Presbyterian Church of Holland Patent. This was a blessed union which endured for nearly 57 years. Mr. Clark was a long time member of The First Presbyterian Church of Holland Patent, where he greatly enjoyed singing in the choir for many years.
He also served the church as a Deacon, Elder and Session member, Clerk of the Session and on the building committee when the educational building was constructed which joined the twin church buildings together. In 1997, he served on the Bicentennial Committee of the church. In September, 1969, Everson was elected to the board of directors of the Holland Patent Cemetery Association.
In 1977, he was elected president of the cemetery association, serving in the capacity until September 2000, when he became president and secretary of the cemetery board, retiring from those offices in October, 2012. During his service to the cemetery, Mr. Clark was instrumental in overseeing an expansion and improvement of the cemetery property, the removal of many trees, and the institution of a letter writing campaign to raise funds and a major cemetery grounds recovery after a major storm in 1986. Mr. Clark was a member of the Roberts Post # 161 American Legion, Holland Patent and a life member of Upton V.F.W. Post # 8259, Stittville and a life member of the 18th Fighter Wing Association; he and Evey, greatly enjoyed attending annual reunions of the Fighter Wing Association.
For several years after his retirement, Everson volunteered at a food bank in Utica. He greatly enjoyed reading and American history and aviation. Clarkie was a devoted fan of the NY Yankee Baseball Team, the NY Giants Football Team and the SU Basket Ball Team.
For many years he was an accomplished wood worker and greatly enjoyed working in his wood shop where he constructed fine furniture which he gave to his church and friends. In addition to his wife, Evelyn, Clarkie is survived by several nieces and nephews. He was the last of a family of nine brothers and sisters.
Also surviving are sisters in law; Glenyce J. Trainor, Boonville, Hazel Black, Remsen, Bronwen (Fred) VanNamee, Holland Patent, and a brother in law and sister in law, Ivor (Kathy) Jones, Canajoharie. His Funeral will be Saturday at 2:00 P.M. at The First Presbyterian Church of Holland Patent, with interment to follow with Military Honors at Holland Patent Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville.
