Obituary for Evon M. Yoak Evon M. Yoak, 66 of Elkview went home to be with her Lord and Savior on January 5, 2019 after a long illness. She was born on August 18, 1952 in Leatherwood, WV to the late Robert and Marie C. Hayes Woods. She was a former member of the Leatherwood Missionary Baptist Church and a former employee of CAMC Women and Children’s Hospital.

Evon cherished spending time with all her family, bird watching, making arts and crafts, and was always eager to play cards (rummy). In addition to her parents Evon is preceded in death by her husband, James R. Yoak, brothers, Randall Woods, Van Woods, and Dan Woods, sisters, Jean Woods, Caroline Woods England, and Evelyn Woods Burch. She is survived by her daughter, Julie Yoak Sergent (Mike), her son, Jimmy Yoak (April), all of Elkview, grandsons, Adam and Austin Sergent, Jarrett and Alex Yoak, “honorary granddaughters”, Mea Woods and Haylee Wilson and many nieces, nephews and family members.

Her kindness and willingness to help others, will not be forgotten. The family wishes to express a very special thank you to her In Home Nurse, Melissa Byrne, who always went above and beyond taking care of and loving our Mom, also the many doctors and nurses who treated her at CAMC hospitals and Dr. Sissoko. Because of her support of her four grandsons attending Elk Valley Christian School, the family requests donations to the school in lieu of flowers.

Donations may be mailed to EVCS, 58 Mt. Pleasant Drive, WV 25071. Service will be 12:00 pm Friday, January 11, 2019 at Hafer Funeral Home with Pastor Lee Swor officiating.

Burial will follow the service in Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery, Dunbar. Visitation will be Thursday from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the funeral home. Online condolences may be sent to www.
