He was born in Brooklyn, NY, and lived in Keyport before moving to Lakewood 2 years ago. Fred served in the United States Army during World War II.

He worked as a postal worker for the United States Postal Service in Brooklyn. Surviving are his sons; Fred Scala, and Frank Scala and his wife Lori, his daughter Joanne Ronin and her husband Joe, six grandchildren; Brianna, Samantha, Vincent, Robert, Joseph, and Maria and great grandson Vincent. Cremation is private and under the direction of Cremation Service of Ocean, 885 Mantoloking Rd.
