Floyd L. “Sonny” Queen, 81, of Evansville, passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at the Solarbron Terrace. Sonny was born December 27, 1937 in Evansville to the late William Floyd Queen and Helen Lucille (Turpin) Schweikarth. He attended FJ Reitz High School and was an active member of New Bethel Baptist Church, where he served as a trustee.

He was a veteran of the United States Army. Sonny worked as a heavy equipment operator for Floyd Staub and Industrial Contractors. He was a member of Operating Engineers Local 181.

Sonny was also a very active musician and had played country music all over the tri-state area. Surviving Sonny are his wife of 38 years, Linda (Golden) Queen; two daughters, Tammy Meyer and Tracy (Dwayne) Woodley; three sons, Bill (Lana) Masterson, Larry Queen and Chance (Angela) Queen; three sisters, Shirley Burgdorf, Millie Knight and Carol (Tim) Craig and one brother, Don (Connie) Schwiekarth. Also surviving are fourteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Sonny was preceded in death by two brothers, David and Larry Schweikarth and by a son-in-law, Jeff Meyer. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at New Bethel Baptist Church, 4301 Broadway Ave, Rev. Mark Lowe officiating.

Burial will follow in Sunset Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 until 7:00 PM on Friday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street.
