Frankie W. Barton passed peacefully on Friday, April 27, 2018 at home, surrounded by her family. She was 86. Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Ralph Ivey Barton; sons, Ralph Edward Barton (Terri) and Frank Anthony Barton (Kathryn); daughter, Nancy Barton Atkinson (David).

She was preceded in death by her youngest son, Lee Walton Barton (Beth). She is survived by seven grandchildren, Dylan Barton, Hannah Barton, Ivey Barton, Davey Atkinson, Katie Atkinson, Jamie Barton and Kara Barton; great-grandchild, Kaylee Johns; sister, Elizabeth Mize (Charles); brother, Robert Walton (Peggy); nieces and nephews, Charles Mize Jr., Elizabeth Hudson, Larry Mize, Robin McLamb, Bob Walton, Bill Barton and Barbara Noland. She was predeceased by her niece, Pam Walton.

Born in Amity, Georgia, she was the daughter of James Clanton Walton and Irene Hogan Walton. A native of Thompson, Georgia, she graduated from Thompson High School, where she excelled in math and was a member of the National Beta Club. She attended Junior College of Augusta in Augusta, Georgia.

Frankie was an active member of Providence Presbyterian Church in West Columbia, where she worked joyfully in many aspects of church life and received the Presbyterian Women’s Honorary Life Membership Award in 1998 for her faithful service. A generous and caring daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother, Frankie enjoyed life to its fullest. Above all, she cherished her family and friends and those who knew her were blessed by her genuine kindness and unconditional love.

She enjoyed annual summer trips with her family to Edisto Beach, caring for her grandchildren and playing bridge with friends. Throughout her life she created beautiful works of art through her fine needlework and ceramics. She was also an avid sports fan.

A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, May 12 at 11:30 a.m. at Providence Presbyterian Church in West Columbia. Visitation and refreshments will follow in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Providence Presbyterian Church, 1112 Hummingbird Lane, West Columbia.

The family would like to give special thanks to MSA Hospice and the special caregivers who loved and cared for “Miss Frankie” in her final days.
