Fred Blanton, 78, of Owensboro, died on Sunday, February 24, 2019 at his home. He was born April 30, 1940 in Salyersville, KY to the late Bob and Katherine Himes Blanton. He worked as a bricklayer for Local 4 IN/KY and was a U.S. Army veteran.

He was a member of the Stanley Masonic Lodge 878 and was of the Baptist faith. Fred was a lifelong avid bird hunter and was a collector and tinkerer. He enjoyed working on clocks and he adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his brothers, Tom Blanton, Dick Blanton, Chuck Blanton and Bill Blanton. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Barbara Johnson Blanton; son, Dennis Blanton; three grandchildren, Dallas, Dakota and Laura Blanton; three great-grandchildren, Hadley, Owen and Symphany Blanton; and two brothers, Darrell Blanton and John Blanton. Services will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday at James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory.

Private burial will be at Bells Run Cemetery at a later date. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday and after 9 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Masonic services will be at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
