Genevieve (Plocha) Helhowski, 94, of East Vandergrift, passed away Thursday, April 26, 2018 in Nelson’s Golden Years, Dubois, PA. Born September 16, 1923 in East Vandergrift, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Josephine (Nawrocki) Plocha. She lived in East Vandergrift all her life.

Genevieve was a graduate of Vandergrift High School. She was a homemaker who worked in the Chemical Lab at U.S. Steel, Vandergrift during WWII. She was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace… Read More » Catholic Church, East Vandergrift.

Genevieve enjoyed baking, crocheting, sewing, and watching the Game Show Network. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry B. Helhowski in 1975; siblings, Frank, Teddy, and Zigmund Plocha; Stella Jastrzembski; Pearl Ryba; and Mildred Shaeffer. Genevieve is survived by her children, Linda H. (Richard D.) Sell of Reynoldsville; Harold J. SelHelhowski of East Vandergrift; grandchildren, Holly (Mac) Gammeter of Chancellor, SD; Jason (Kay) Sell of Falls Church, VA; Daniel (Stacy) Sell of Dubois, PA; Jonathan (Amber) Sell of Auburn, NY; great great grandchildren, Sierra, Savanna, Nevada, Lindsey, and Avia; sister, Jenny Morda of Carlisle, PA; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church 411 McKinley Ave. East Vandergrift, Friday, May 25, 2018 at 10 A.M. with Father Michael Sciberras as celebrant. Burial in St. Gertrude Cemetery.

Brady-Curran Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc. 429 Franklin Ave. Vandergrift have been entrusted to the care of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Genevieve’s memory to Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church 400 Kennedy Ave.
