Obituary for George Anthony Quinn George Anthony Quinn, of Bridgewater, NJ, 84, died peacefully on April 16, 2018. George was born 84 years ago in Plainfield, NJ to the late Henry and Mary Ellen (Schneekloth) Quinn. He was raised in the Plainfields until graduating North Plainfield High School in 1952.

While in school, George played football, baseball, track & field, where he excelled in pole vaulting. He also had a love for animals, and spent his spare time helping raise horses at a neighbor’s farm. He had a particular fondness for a mare named “Gigi.

George served peacetime in the U.S. Army Signal Corps from 1956-1958 at the Tobyhanna Signal Depot in the Poconos. For 40 years, he was a dedicated employee of the New Jersey Bell Telephone Company (now Verizon), where he held a wide range of positions from serviceman to management. After retirement from NJ Bell he worked for the Somerset Home for Displaced Children (Visions & Pathways) in Bridgewater for 15 years before retiring for the second time.

Volunteerism and community service were important to George. He was an enthusiastic member of the Middle Boro B.P.O.E Elks and Lions Clubs, the latter where he served as president and secretary. He was involved in various roles with the Middle Little League, eventually serving as president.

George was also active in fundraising at St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church, Manville. George enjoyed staying active in all types of weather. He enjoyed skiing, playing tennis and softball.

However, one of his favorite pastimes was keeping his properties meticulously landscaped. He traveled with friends and family to some favorite vacation destinations including: Florida, Puerto Rico, cruising in Bermuda, Hawaii, Italy and a cruise aboard the Queen Mary’s maiden voyage to the Caribbean. And of course, many trips to the Jersey shore.

One noteworthy trip he made was with his son Brian to Ireland, where he learned more about his roots and love of beer! As a father and later a grandfather, he enjoyed attending all the sports events that his children and grandchildren participated in. George was fun loving, gregarious and witty.

He had a pocket full of one-liners for every occasion. Friends and family loved his company, sense of humor, kindness and gentle nature. George was predeceased by his brother Charles Quinn and Margaret (Aunt Peggy) Quinn who helped raise him for many years.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Natalie Lukiw Quinn. They were married at St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church in Manville on June 30, 1956. Surviving are his son Brian and his wife Bianca (Freda), and daughter Amy and her husband Yianni Provel.

Grandchildren Christopher and Georgie Provel, and Ian and Mia Quinn. A Memorial Funeral Service will take place on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 10:30 AM at St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church, 1900 Brooks Blvd. , Hillsborough, NJ 08844.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Ketusky Funeral Home. Memorial contributions can be made to the Adult Day Center of Somerset County, 872 East Main Street, Bridgewater, NJ 08807. George spent enjoyable times at the facility.
