Obituary for George F. Masson Jr. George F. Masson, Jr., age 100, of Washington, passed away Thursday, August 23, 2018 at the United Presbyterian Home. Celebration of life services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 31, 2018 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Chaplain Andrew Zuehlke officiating. Calling hours will begin noon Thursday, August 30, 2018 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. Thursday evening.
Interment with military honors will be held at Elm Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established for the Reformed Presbyterian Church. Online condolences may be sent for George’s family through the web at www.
jonesfh.com George was born October 2, 1917 in Washington, Iowa, the son of George F. and Mary (Cherry) Masson. He graduated from Washington High School. He served honorably in the United States Army during WWII on the Burma Road.
George was united in marriage to Kathryn B. Myers on February 13, 1960 in Washington. George was a lifelong resident of Washington. He retired from the United States Postal Service after 37 years.
He was a very active member of the Reformed Presbyterian Church and a scholar of Creationism, having written and published several articles on the topic. George also enjoyed music, performing in a singing group with his three sisters as well as a Barbershop group at the United Presbyterian Home. He is survived by his son, Kent Myers and wife Susan of Vero Beach, FL; nieces and nephews: Mary Ellen Hunsaker and husband Jim of Washington, IA; Jo Ann LaCrosse of Clinton, IA; Charles Luckenbill and wife Meredith of Golden, CO; Michael Carstensen and wife Joanne of Orange Beach, AL; and Anthony Carstensen of Albuquerque, NM; many great-nieces and great-nephews; and cousins: Nancy Smith of Iowa City, IA and Penny Jordan of Cedar Rapids, IA.
George was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mary; wife, Kathryn; sisters: Dorothy (Lester) Luckenbill, Mildred (Lew) Whitted and Esther (Dale) Carstensen; nieces: Cherry Brinning and Janet Morris; and nephews, Jim Whitted and Dan Whitted.
