Obituary for Frances Nathanson Frances L. Nathanson, 90, passed away Monday, October 8, 2018, at Cottage Grove Retirement Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 13, 2018, at St. Paul’s Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids. The family will be present to receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. The family will designate memorials at a later time.

Frances was born December 3, 1927, in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Percy and Estella Whisler. She attended Living Lake School, a one-room schoolhouse through the eighth grade. While at Living Lake she was often the only one in her grade.

She attended high school in Washington, Iowa, and then attended MacMurray College for Women in Jacksonville, Illinois for two years. She transferred to the University of Iowa in Iowa City where she majored in speech and radio. She was active in the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority.

She married James W. Hudson of Pocahontas, Iowa in 1949. Eventually they moved to Pocahontas to start a law practice and a family. They were the parents of four children, Jim, Carol, David, and Tom.

In Pocahontas Frances was active in the United Methodist Church, the Republican Party, community chorus, and a local drama troupe. She served as a member of the board of directors of Friends of Iowa Public Television. In 1977 Frances moved to Iowa City, Iowa to work at KXIC radio in advertising and as an on-air morning talk show host.

She married Cedar Rapids attorney Maurice Nathanson in 1980. In Cedar Rapids she was active in St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, singing in the choir and working as a volunteer in the office. She was a member of P.E.O. Chapter II and a member of T. T. T. Chapter C.J.

She is survived by her sons James C. and Beth Hudson, Pocahontas, IA; David C. and Mary Jo Hudson, Windsor Heights, IA; Thomas E. and Laura Hudson, Des Moines, IA; and daughter Carol A. and Leo Hallman, Pocahontas, IA; 11 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Shirley Whisler of Washington, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Maurice Nathanson; brother, Raymond Whisler and sister-in-law, Mary Whisler Holden; brother, Lawrence Whisler; and former husband James Hudson.
