Obituary for Shirley Mae Clegg Shirley Mae Clegg (née Fuller) formerly of Chicago, Illinois, died Thursday, November 1, 2018, at Morning Breeze Retirement and Healthcare Center in Greensburg, Indiana. Celebration of life services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 9, 2018 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington, Iowa with Father Charles Fladung presiding. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 8, 2018 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home.
A Rosary will be prayed Thursday evening. Interment will take place at the Oregon Township Cemetery in Ainsworth, Iowa following the Friday afternoon services. Memorials have been established for the Ainsworth Opera House (ainsworthoperahouse.org/ and the Society of the Little Flower, 1313 North Frontage Road, Darien, IL 60561 (little flower.org).

She attended Chicago area catholic schools. Shirley was united in marriage to James William Clegg on February 5, 1954, in Burlington, Iowa and they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on February 5, 2014 in Washington, Iowa. Shirley lived in Chicago for over 65 years where she began working as an accounting clerk for Kroger, then Clark Equipment Company and retired in 1990 as a mainframe operator for M. R. Berlin Co. In 1996 Shirley and Jim moved from Chicago to Washington, Iowa where they began to enjoy their retirement.
Shirley loved life and especially cheering on her sons and their baseball, football and wrestling sports, cooking and hosting family and friends, Sunday brunch, house parties especially St. Patrick Day celebrations, traveling the country visiting her children, grandchildren and cousins and spending warm winters in Daytona Beach, Florida. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW Post, and with her husband at the Elks Lodge in Chicago, Illinois; and the Eagles Lodge in Daytona Shores, Florida, Shirley is survived by her son, John Harold “Jack” Clegg of New Orleans, LA; daughter, Jill Carrie Clegg Crohan and Floyd Lyster of Waldron, IN; daughter, Julie Ann Clegg Lancaster and husband Joseph B. Lancaster, III of Grapevine, TX; son, M Sgt. (Ret) Jay Robert Clegg and wife Tauna Mantha Clegg of Freeman, SD; grandchildren: Ellen Crohan Cartee and husband Joe L. Cartee II of Spartanburg, SC; Olivia Bronwyn Clegg Fleming and husband Nicholas Jude Fleming of New Orleans, LA; Alexandra Reaney Clegg Geeslin and husband Arnold “Trey” Geeslin, III of Atlanta, GA; Jason Patrick Crohan and wife Shivali Shah Crohan of Simpsonville, SC; James Austin Clegg and wife Shawna Gibbs Clegg of Post Falls, ID; Capt.
John Benjamin “Jack” Clegg and wife Madison Hoffman Clegg of Harker Heights, TX; Courtney Marie Lancaster of Houston, TX; Joseph B. Lancaster, IV of Decatur, IL; Alexia Mortimer of Raeford, NC; Olivia Mantha of Reaford, NC; Alina Mantha of Chapel Hill, NC; Colin and wife Rachel Hearton Mantha of Manassas, VA; great-grandchildren: Zoie Mortimer of Raeford, NC; Isabelle Delphine Fleming and Nicholas Jude Fleming, Jr. of New Orleans, LA; James Randall Clegg and Issac Benjamin Clegg of Post Falls, ID; and Henley Austin Clegg of Harker Heights, TX; sister-in-law, Mary Helen Clegg of Fresno, CA; and nephews, nieces and grand-nephews. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband James William Clegg, her son Col. (Ret) James David Clegg, her parents and two brothers, John “Jack” Fuller and Edward Fuller.
