Obituary for Murray Coon Murray Lewis Coon, age 86, of Washington, passed away Friday, November 30, 2018 at the United Presbyterian Home. Celebration of life services will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Chaplain Andrew Zuehlke officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. Wednesday morning.
Interment will be held at Oregon Township Cemetery in Ainsworth. Memorials have been established for Hospice of Washington County and Paws & More Animal Shelter. Online condolences may be sent for Murray’s family through the web at www.
jonesfh.com. Murray was born October 25, 1932 in Washington, Iowa, the son of Ira Everette and Alta Eunice (Himmelreich) Coon. He graduated from West Chester High School and attended the Washington Junior College.
Murray served honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was united in marriage to Patricia Ann Pehler on July 5, 1954 in Washington, Iowa. Murray worked as a clerk at Lechners Ace Hardware.
He was a member of the West Chester Methodist Church. Murray had a passion for fixing bicycles, enjoyed attending his children’s school events and loved spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Coon of Washington, IA; daughter, Jan Johnson and husband James of Pinon Hills, CA; two grandchildren: Jeremiah Johnson and wife Shelly of Sierra Vista, AZ and Jessica Richards and husband Johnny of Ft.
Bragg, NC; one great-grandchild, Gabriel Richards; and one sister, Phyllis Coon Crile and husband Marvin of Washington, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Steven Michael Coon. To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Murray Coon please visit our Sympathy Store.
