Thurm, 88, of Perryville, died on December 23, 2018 at Independence Care Center in Perryville, MO. He was born January 30, 1930 in Wittenberg, MO son of Herman Frederich and Paula Elizabeth (Grebing) Thurm. He and Verna M.E. Ludwig were married on October 11, 1953.

She preceded him in death on June 7, 2009. He then married Olivia (Steffens) Schick on November 25, 2012. She preceded him in death on April 25, 2018.

George was the Churner at the Frohna Creamery. He later started at the Bank of Altenburg as a bookkeeper/Teller, then a loan officer and President of the Bank of for a total of 35 years. After retiring he continued as a board member and corporate secretary for 14 ½ years.

He was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Frohna and held numerous offices at Concordia. He was a member of the Lions Club, Saxony Memorial in Frohna, board member of Lutheran Children and Family Services and board member of Perry County Health Department. Survivors include two daughters and one son, Brenda Hopfer of Perryville, Linda (Kyle) Brotherton of Jackson and Stephen (Debra) Thurm of Frohna, six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, both wives, two brothers and three sisters. Visitation will be held at Concordia Lutheran Church on Thursday, January 3, 2019 from 4:00 – 8:00 pm and on Friday from 6:30 am until time of service at 10:00 am with Rev. Steven Theiss officiating.

Burial in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Wittenberg. Memorials preferred to Concordia Lutheran Church or Saxony Lutheran High School. Young & Sons Funeral Home, Inc. in Perryville, MO provided the arrangements.
