George’s Obituary McGRIFF, GEORGE GLENN – Of Romeo, Age 93 died Wednesday February 13, 2019, at Orchard Grove Health Campus. Funeral service will be held 12pm Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint, Mr. Ron Brooks officiating. Burial with full military honors will be held at Great Lakes National Cemetery 2pm Tuesday, February 19, 2019.

Visitation 2-8pm Monday, February 18, 2019 and 10am Tuesday, until the time of the service at the funeral home. Those desiring may make contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association or National Corvette Museum. George was born in Flint, MI on April 4, 1925 to parents George McGriff and Mary (Christensen) McGriff.

He graduated from Flint Northern High School in 1943. He proudly served in the United States Navy during WWII. In 1950 he began working for General Motors at Flint Chevrolet Assembly.

He was chosen to work on a special project, which would later become the Corvette. He drove the first Corvette off the line on June 30,1953. The Corvette moved to Missouri and he chose to stay in Flint, retiring in 1980.

George dearly loved the Detroit Tigers, golf, bowling and creating stained glass. Surviving are daughter, Patricia (Mike) Kelley; Grandchildren, Sean (Heidi) Kelley, Scott (Julie) Kelley and Kristine (Jason) Karpinski; Great-grandchildren, Ryan and Kyle Kelley, Evan Kelley, Kyra and Will Karpinski; Many beloved nieces and nephews and many loving extended family members. He was preceded in death by his wives, Mildred McGriff in 1990, Edna Zagrodny McGriff in 1995, Hazel Burgess McGriff in 2013 and sister Patricia Blanckaert in 2014.
