George Gregory Greer, 76, died March 17, 2019, at his residence in Florence after being in declining health for several years. Greg was born on March 19, 1942, in Pikeville, Kentucky, but moved to Statesville, NC as an infant. He attended Mitchell Junior College and NC State University.

He served in the United States Army. Greg was retired from Life of Georgia Insurance Company. He was a member of Eastside Christian Church and served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher for many years.

He was predeceased by his parents, Ruth and Paul S. Greer; step-mother, Lucille F. Greer, and his brother, Paul Greer. Greg is survived by his children, Maria G. Schubert (Rick) and Jason C. Greer (Natalie), five grandchildren: Meagan Lawhon, Christian Aikens, Sarah Cathryn Schubert, Stephen Schubert, and Emma Schubert. He is also survived by his sister, Emily Amburn of Edenton, NC and sister-in-law, Shirley Greer of Charlotte, NC and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday, March 22, 2019, at Eastside Christian Church. Burial will follow at Florence Memorial Gardens directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. Family will receive friends from 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM on Friday at the church.
