Mergler, loving husband and father of four passed away peacefully at the age of 84 surrounded by family members. George was born April 2, 1934 in Marion, VA to Robert Wayne and Myrtle Tilson Mergler. He attended VPI and Michigan State University where he met his wife, Elayne Paula Flower.

George retired from the FAA in Leesburg after 20 years. He had a 30 year career in the Virginia National Guard and US Army Reserve and retired as a LTC. George is survived by his wife of 62 years, Elayne, his four children, Eric, Lynnette, Jeff (Laurie), Brian (Marcy) and four grandchildren, Michael (Andrea), Ben, Spencer, and Tyler.

A visitation will be held at Hall Funeral Home in Purcellville, VA on Friday, Jan. 4, 2019, from 7-9 P.M. A memorial service will be held at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Leesburg, VA on Sat. , Jan.

5, 2019, at 1 P.M. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Wounded Warriors Project, Paralyzed Veterans of America or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
