Obituary of George Bailey, Jr. George Dewey Bailey, Jr., 89, formerly of Baltimore and Pocomoke City, died on Thursday, December 27, 2018 at his Captains Cove home, surrounded by his family. Born on January 1, 1929 in Baltimore, MD, he was a son of the late George D. Bailey, Sr. and Virginia Z. Smith Bailey. George married his loving wife, Carole K. Ayres in 1954, who passed away on October 31, 1993.

He then married Alice Whitmore on June 3, 1995 and moved to Captain’s Cove. George was an electrical engineering graduate of Johns Hopkins University and worked for several companies in the Baltimore area before moving to Pocomoke City in 1964 to accept a position with LTV, as an electrical engineer on the Scout program. He left LTV in 1975 to accept a position with the NOAA satellite tracking station in Virginia, retiring in 1989 as the Deputy Station Manager.

George loved to hunt, fish, snow ski and crab and was active for a number of years as a coach in the Pocomoke Little League and Senior League. He was also a member of the Lions Club, supported Habit for Humanity and Compassion International. George is survived by his wife of 23 years, Alice Whitmore Bailey; one daughter Susan Sekira and her husband David, of Southport, NC; two sons, George E. “Buddy” Bailey and his wife Erin of Virginia Beach, VA, and Steven A. Bailey and his wife Kate of Gambrills, MD; one stepson Rod Whitmore and his wife Sue of Salisbury; 6 grandchildren, George Michael Bailey, Bridget Ashley Bailey, Christopher Sekira, Matthew Sekira, Sophia Whitmore and Stella Whitmore and many extended family members.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Carole Bailey; three brothers and one sister. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at 11:00 am at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church. Pastor Christine Motl will officiate.

Interment will be private at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice or St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 20 Third Street, Pocomoke City, MD 21851. Arrangements are in the care of Holloway Funeral Home, P.A., 107 Vine Street, Pocomoke City, MD 21851.
